I am putting this post up to see if there are any other Chronic Fatigue suffers on TV.
I received treatment for a viral infection with the consequence being that I developed CFS. This is a common occurance in the development of CFS in a persons body.
What makes CFS unique is that it is post-exertional fatigue unrelieved by rest and lasting at least 24-hours. Post-exertional malaise and/or fatigue of inappropriate severity can temporarily immobilize me and worsen my symptoms following normal physical or mental activity. It takes me an inordinate amount of time to recover – 24 hours or more.
The biggest misconception is that the type of fatigue it results in is similar to the everyday variety most of people will experience. Anyone who has ever felt tired may believe they can identify with CFS and may think, ‘I often feel exhausted and manage to get on with it’. But the fatigue experienced by a person with CFS is entirely different. For example, it can take CFS sufferer days to recover from a walk around the block. Read more...

To Eat More Fruit, Picture a Fruit Salad
(HealthDay News) -- Creating a healthy eating action plan and visualizing yourself carrying it out may help improve the way you eat, researchers suggest.
"Telling people to just change the way they eat doesn't work; we've known that for a long time," study author Barbel Knauper, an associate professor of psychology at McGill University in Montreal, said in a university news release.
"But research has shown that if people make a concrete plan about what they are going to do, they are better at acting on their intentions. What we've done that's new is to add visualization techniques to the action plan," she explained.
Her study included 177 students who were asked to set the goal of eating more fruit for a week. All of the students ate more fruit during that time. However, those who made a concrete plan, wrote it down and also visualized how they were going to carry out their plan (i.e. when, where and how they would buy, prepare and eat fruit) increased their fruit consumption twice as much as those who didn't plan or visualize. Sunlight May Help Protect Men From Kidney Cancer
(HealthDay News) -- Men with jobs that expose them to high levels of sunlight are less likely to develop kidney cancer than those with little or no sunlight exposure at work, says a new study.
Previous research suggests that vitamin D, which is obtained from sun exposure and certain foods and supplements, may help prevent some cancers. Vitamin D is metabolized and most active within the kidneys.
This new study included 1,097 male and female kidney cancer patients and 1,476 healthy people in Europe who were interviewed about their work history and other demographic information.
Men with the highest levels of work-related exposure to sunlight were 24 percent to 38 percent less likely to have kidney cancer than other men. This association between job-related sunlight exposure and kidney cancer risk was not seen in women. Read more...

Maine town becomes first to declare food sovereignty
The town of Sedgwick, Maine, currently leads the pack as far as food sovereignty is concerned. Local residents recently voted unanimously at a town hall meeting to pass an ordinance that reinforces its citizens' God-given rights to "produce, process, sell, purchase, and consume local foods of their choosing," which includes even state- and federally-restricted foods like raw milk.
The declaration is one of the first of its kind to be passed in the US, and it is definitely not the last. Several other Maine towns -- including Penobscott, Brooksville, and Blue Hill -- all have similar ordinances up for vote in the coming weeks.
"Tears of joy welled in my eyes as my town voted to adopt this ordinance," said Mia Strong, a Sedgwick resident who frequents local farms. "I am so proud of my community. They made a stand for local food and our fundamental rights as citizens to choose that food." Read more...

Experimental cancer drugs killing far more people than they help
Experimental cancer drugs harm far more people than they help, according to a study conducted by researchers from Duke University Medical Center and published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
"This sounds a cautionary note," lead researcher Jeffrey Peppercorn said. "In most cases, we should refrain from using experimental drugs outside of clinical trials."
U.S. law allows doctors to prescribe any drug they wish, as long as the FDA has approved it for at least one use. As a consequence, as many as 20 percent of prescriptions in the United States are "off-label" - used on conditions for which they are not approved, or given in doses higher than the FDA has approved.
Since it can take years of clinical testing before a drug is approved for a new use, many doctors simply jump the gun, prescribing experimental drugs for cancer without waiting for studies to be completed. Read more...

Berry compounds lower risk of Parkinson's disease
An enormous study spanning several decades has shown that people who eat berries regularly have a much lower risk of developing Parkinson's disease than othose who do not. Published in the journal ScienceDaily, the study adds significantly to the growing body of evidence proving that flavanoids, a polyphenolic type of antioxidant that is already known to exhibit anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects, can help stave off neurological diseases as well.
Xiang Gao, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues from the Harvard School of Public Health analyzed the effects of eating berries in a group of nearly 130,000 men and women. The team evaluated the correlation between flavanoid intake and cases of Parkinson's disease over the course of more than 20 years and found that the top 20 percent of men who consumed the most flavanoids were 40 percent less likely to develop Parkinson's than others. And in both men and women, consumption of anthocyanins, a specific type of flavanoid, was also related to reduced risk. Read more...
