One candidate for that "wormer" medicine would be Alinia (Daxon in Mexico) but there is no perfect answer. Dr. Simon Yu MD, Internist from St Louis area, attended my March conference in Phoenix and in the final question and answer session on Sunday he explained how he changes the lives of seriously ill patients using EAV (Voll Electrodermal testing) to help select other therapies that augment Alinia. He agrees that it seems to have significant potential for helping many of us with little potential for harm. Read more...

Malpractice Fears Can Influence Medical Practice
(HealthDay News) -- Peer pressure and fear of malpractice lawsuits seem to be behind the decisions by some doctors to order unnecessary cardiac catheterizations, new research suggests.
When asked in a national survey why they might order this potentially hazardous procedure that measures blood flow to the human heart, even when it might not be called for clinically, the top two reasons that cardiologists around the country gave were the fact that other doctors do it routinely and that patients might sue if the test wasn't done.
"We didn't say unnecessary," noted study author Frances Lee Lucas, an epidemiologist with the Maine Medical Center in Portland, whose report was published in the April 13 online edition of Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes. "We said how often for non-clinical reasons. We didn't want to say unnecessary because we knew nobody would ever say they ordered an unnecessary test."
The study of 598 cardiologists didn't attempt to determine the number of catheterizations performed that weren't really needed -- an important issue in an era of rising worry about medical costs. That would be a very difficult study to do, and it would have to include errors in both directions, people who need one and don't get it as well as people who get one and don't need it, Lucas said. Stress Seems to Play Role in Premenstrual Symptom Severity
(HealthDay News) -- Feeling stressed early in the menstrual cycle may worsen women's premenstrual symptoms, but teaching women how to reduce their stress levels may help, a new study suggests.
The study included 259 healthy women, aged 18 to 44, who were provided with an at-home fertility monitor to follow the phases of their monthly cycle. The participants also completed questionnaires about their stress levels for each of the four weeks of their cycle. None of the women were taking oral contraceptives or any other hormone medications.
Women who said they felt stressed two weeks before the beginning of menstruation were two to four times more likely to report moderate to severe premenstrual symptoms than those who didn't feel stressed, according to the report published recently online in the Journal of Women's Health. Smoking and Aging related Diseases
It is very well known that smoking is an important risk factor for many diseases, particularly, cardiovascular, neoplastic and respiratory diseases which are the main causes of death in industrialized countries. It is predicted that by the year 2020, smoking would have become the major cause of death and disability.
Smoking is also responsible for the development of many pathological conditions which are particularly frequent during old age. These conditions include dementia, osteoporosis, diabetes, peptic ulcer, gastro-esophageal reflux, erectile dysfunction, senile macular degeneration, nuclear cataract and alterations of hearing and skin. Smokers have to compromise not only on the expectancy of life but also on the quality of life. The increased frequency of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular illnesses among smokers increases the risk of Alzheimer’s disease in later life. Compared to smokers, current smokers have an increased risk of dementia and cognitive decline differing from 40 percent to 80 percent. Research shows that smokers have higher average systolic blood pressure values compared to non-smokers. Smokers also do not seem to have physiological nocturnal decrease of the blood pressure levels. Reversing Diabetes: Harnessing the Power Within Ourselves
By Janice S. Lehet, Titusville, NJ
"There is no failure, except in no longer trying; no defeat, except from within; no insurmountable barrier, except our own inherent weakness of purpose." Anonymous
Four months ago, I was grossly overweight, had triglyceride and cholesterol levels of nearly 400, and received reports that my liver function tests exceeded the normal range by 25%. Experiencing numbness in my face and foot, I checked into the emergency room at a local hospital fearing that I might have been experiencing a stroke. I don't think I had a stroke since I was released after an overnight stay, but my admittance to Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey changed my life.
After ten years of knowing that I had diabetes, I had regressed to a position of taking three daily potent time release pills to manage my glucose levels in spite of my sincere efforts to manage the disease as carefully as possible. I found that as my pill intake increased so did my glucose levels. Still, my doctors continued to increase the medicine's dosage in spite of my discussions with them about articles in the New York Times and other publications revealing that the drug could potentially cause heart failure and kidney disease. One doctor dismissed the articles and touted the benefits of taking the drugs, again weighing such "benefits" against the deleterious effects of the disease. Read more...
